Artist's Statement

My art begins with my love of the world,
especially human and animal forms, the play of plants and pattern and everyday objects transformed into still life. It celebrates the beauty of the subjects and the feeling surrounding them. My paintings have a decorative intent, using bold color, movement, rhythm, and line to animate my subjects.

Studying art in other cultures has led me to respect the universal job of art, which is to rnrich daily life through pleasure. I want to provide art that people can enjoy everyday. Although my work is usually bold and eye-catching, I do not aim to shock but to provide joy and fascination.

Painting is like a dance, flowing effortless and naturally whether inspired by color, form, movement, or expression. This spontaneous portrayal may complete the artwork with simple compositions in which both "solid" and "empty" space are full of energy, or I might work the subject into a complex, often playful energized composition. I like to represent both form and energy - a moment of visual balance between figure and background, excitement and composure. The result, I hope, is a spiritual harmony as well as visual pleasure.
